The Great Gatsby

* However, of all the characters, I liked Gatsby the most. He is a man that embodies the American dream of coming from nothing and achieving wealth and success through ambition and hard work. From a young age Gatbsy despised poverty and longed for wealth and riches. He also wanted to become wealthy so that he could marry his love Daisy, whom he has loved for many years. Gatsby is a tragic hero however. Gatsby is not in love with Daisy but the idea of her. For him Daisy represents everything he has worked hard for - wealth, money and status. Gatsby is also a man stuck in the past. He cannot let go of Daisy no matter what and this ultimately leads to his tragic demise. In short I liked the novel a lot because of its characters, its setting, the story’s meaning and its themes. Fitzgerald narrates the story through Nick exceptionally well which gives the story a more personal feel. The author uses the story as a way to highlight the lack of morality in 1920s America, as everyone is obsessed with money and wealth. * Ancak, tüm karakterlerden en çok Gatsby'yi sevdim.
